In this manner it will include the spiritual heritage of the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition, yet could also provide for our basic needs in the forms demonstrated by an ecological village - including forest gardens for an element of self-sufficiency, living machines to treat grey and black water, solar energy (this includes wind and hydroelectricity), organic farming methods and alternative transport, creating a place that is of maximum benefit to all beings.

A particular focus will be a home for the elderly where in Jigme Rinpoche's words "spiritual care can be provided in a spiritual environment during the last precious years of life",

It is hoped that the merging of these compasionate ways of living will offer the most benefit to beings now and for all time as well, as an economical approach to meeting the basic needs of visitors and residents so that there would be more funds available for the RIPA Foundation's humanitarian causes in India, Tibet and Nepal.

There is a pressing need to immediately begin raising funds for the approximately 2.5 million euros needed to buy whichever land is available when there are sufficient funds to purchase it.

Padma Ling has for the last twelve years provided venues and facilitated the dissemination of the teachings from the Ripa Lineage. General grants are given specifically in the areas of Tibetan health, education and cultural preservation, and AIDS care and research.

We are not able to fund individuals, capital campaigns, for-profit organizations, or film projects.

We do not accept unsolicited proposals or materials. If you have been invited by the Gere Foundation to submit a proposal, the following information must be included:

Application Cover Sheet (PDF file)
Organization Information:
Please provide 501(c)(3) verification, information on past projects, previous grants, and brief qualifications of involved personnel
Program Information:
Please provide a statement of proposed project
Describe activities and timeline for requested support
Outline program phases from beginning to end
Provide evidence of the need and value of your program
Describe how your short-term objectives relate to your long-term vision
Illustrate the geographic area and population to be served
Decribe how you would like the Gere Foundation to measure your success
Financial Information:
Provide funding plan/cash flow for project; identify key sources of support and indicate whether funds are received or pending
Provide current organizational and project operating budget
Include prior year's financial statement, preferably audited
If your Organization received a grant from the Gere Foundation in previous years, a final report must precede or accompany the new letter of inquiry or proposal renewal
Please do not submit a proposal until invited by the Gere Foundation. A mailing address for proposal submission will be given at time of invitation.'

What sort of projects might attract a grant in France?

There are a few different types of project for which you may be able to obtain financial help in France. It is important to remember, however, that schemes may only apply to certain areas or be viable at certain times, therefore the suggestions made here can only be a guide to the type of help that may be available. Projects which may attract financial support include the following:
http://www.frenchpropertyrenovation.net/applying_for_a_french_grant.html
http://www.french-property.com/guides/france/building/renovation/heritage/
1. Home-improvement grants, usually for older properties.2. Purchase of and renovations to property to turn it into gîtes.3. Buying or renovating a property for business purposes.4. Renovation of properties in eco friendly forms, e.g. solar heating installation etc.5. Renovation of listed buildings, historical monuments or architecturally important buildings.6. Property purchased in areas ear marked by the government as in need of in need of regeneration.7. Purchase of agricultural properties for farming purposes.8. Property bought to provide rental accommodation for clients on welfare benefits.
Property grants - how do you apply in France? There are several different bodies that are responsible for the various grants for different purposes. The first port of call should probably be your local Mairie or the Préfecture, where you will be able to obtain information specific to your area. Other than that, you will need to contact the relevant organisation directly to discuss the possibilities for your specific project.

There are also grants available for properties of major historical or architectural interest through the préfecture. 40% of works

Ideas

To raise money what about the following:-
Ask companies to donate goods for an auction or for sponsorship.
A brocante
An auction
Setting up an Exhibition
Leaving leaflets asking for donations
Collecting donations
Writing articles
Approaching Credit Unions
Finding out about Grant Funding for restoring buildings, agriculture etc.
Buying and selling <a href="http://ripaaction.blogspot.com/2008/08/loanstock-what-is-it.html"target="_blank">Loanstock to friends, family, other Buddhist organisations.

Try thinking outside the box of seeing it as only a religious organisation. The centre is many things - it is a temple, a community, a retreat centre, a shop, an enterprise, a charity, an educational body, an international organisation, a network, a business. When the land is bought it may also be a farm, a cultural heritage centre, a demonstration of ecological living, a healing retreat. It is in essence an offering to the world for the benefit of all beings and this has many forms.

It is likely that the money will come from many places, some from grants, some from loans, some from donations, some from plain old elbow grease. There could be a grant for installing solar panels, a grant for restoring buildings as Gites, there may be agricultural grants/loans available.

We now have many hats; a farmer's hat, a business woman's hat, a therapists hat and of course potentially a Lama's hat. This means that we can find funds available to all these different areas, people and places and we can think about repaying loans from many sources of future earnings.

Loanstock - What is it?

Running a loanstock scheme

Loanstock is a simple yet legally watertight way for members of the public to invest in Communities. It is recommended by the Industrial Common Ownership Movement and Radical Routes, among others. The investment is placed with the community for a fixed period of time; it may carry interest and (subject to certain conditions) it may be withdrawn earlier than the closing date. The investor does not get any decision making power in the organisation.
It is ideal for a highly targeted ethical investment because it does not require legal advice to issue, and so is available to smaller groups. There is no danger of the investors having control over the project, and the stability of the investment can provide a great deal of support to a new enterprise.
It is a form of loan repayable in full on its 'closing date' which means that the community does not need to budget for regular repayments in the difficult early stages. It is also unsecured, and this all adds up to a package which is typically not very attractive to cautious investors. For this reason, it is usually most appropriate to approach members, friends, relatives, committed supporters and others with a very strong interest in the project.
At the same time, it does offer some benefits to the investor - a high level of accountability (since you know exactly where your money is invested and what it is being used for), interest to prevent your investment losing value, and a close personal connection with the project.
It is a form of loan repayable in full on its 'closing date' which means that the co-op does not need to budget for regular repayments in the difficult early stages. It is also unsecured, and this all adds up to a package which is typically not very attractive to cautious investors. For this reason, it is usually most appropriate to approach members, friends, relatives, committed supporters and others with a very strong interest in the project.
It is used mostly by Industrial and Provident Societies (for example, Housing Co-ops) who are exempt from the strict legislation on soliciting investment. Companies absolutely should not advertise loanstock schemes to the public. Even I&PSs should be very cautious in the claims they make.
Loanstock schemes should have a clear closing date, and where necessary a rate of interest. This rate of interest could be whatever your community feels is necessary to raise the investment usually between 0-5%(but, according to co-operative principles, no more) and whatever you feel is possible within your business plan. The interest could be paid in the form of further loanstock, if that is clear in the conditions of the issue, with the same closing date. Many loanstock schemes also specify the maximum size of the issue, but given that common ownership enterprises do not divide their profits among investors, this is unlikely to be an issue; the accompanying business plan will be of more interest to potential investors.

To see a sample loanstock certificate (in it's original form for Co-operatives) follow this link <a href="http://www.upstart.coop/Loanstock%20samples.DOC"target="_blank">sample loanstock certificate

A few tips on record keeping: always keep a register of certificates issued, always number and retain the application form, always ensure that the conditions do not oblige the community to make repayments earlier than the closing date, and always stay in touch with your investors with regular newsletters and updates. It can be a real pain if you lose track of where they are living over the years!

Association Padma Ling - 71, Bld Victor Hugo, 92200 Neuilly Sur Seine Tél : Email:- padma.ling@wanadoo.fr For a full list of Padma Ling's Associations please go to the Contacts Page, Thank you. Lachaussée, the 15th of November 2008

We are Carlo and Ursula from the French Sangha , the theatre group from Lachaussée in France.
Some of you might have seen our shadow theatre play “The life of Siddartha” at the winter retreat 2007 in Corps, or at the Gesar –festival at Detchen Chöling.

We also have played this performance with a lot of success for one month at the famous theatre festival of Avignon and a lot of other occasions (school sessions, theatre programs ….)
Each time we are very surprised, how much the public - children and adults, Buddhists and Non –Buddhists -get involved and fascinated by the play.

“The life of Siddartha” is born with the advice of our master Jigme Rinpoche and we would like to propose it for the fundraising of the European centre as we mentioned this already in Corps

With the project of Camprodon, fundraising becomes more actual than ever, more real, and also more urgent. It needs a lot of money, and unfortunately not everybody of us has a little heritage on his banc.
So we want to insist on the fact, that the organizing of this performance, means not only spreading the Dharma to people, who would not otherwise come in touch with it easily, but at the same time, it could be a good medium to get money for the Europeans Ripa Centre, the project of our heart,

This is our proposition: If we find engagements to play the performance,( schools, theatres, festivals, churches…) the half of the benefit will be for the centre, the other half for our theatre company, because this is our work and we have to live from this.
For example: 3 performances are sold for 2000€ each, so this will be 6000€.
May –be there will be costs of 500€ (voyage, publicity etc..) so there will be left 2750€ for the company and 2750 for the center.

On the other hand, at the same time, it can be possible, to organize an more important event around the performance. As we are already at the place, we could play for free and for example, you can try to associate famous artists to contribute with a small intervention and to propose a cold buffet with oriental speciality after the performance etc. This actually means, that people from the Sangha has to get more involved, which will increase both, spiritual merit and material benefit!
So with a good publicity and preparation, if you have 200 spectators who pay (for to say something) 50€, with expenses of 1.500 € there will be a benefit of 8.500 €.
With 300 spectators the benefit can climb up to 13.000€ and with 500 spectators even to 22.000 €.
If we arrive to organise events in 6 different metropoles of our United European Sangha Land (U.E.S.L.)
we will arrive nearly at 100 000 €….which is not so bad for the beginning.
As the performance shows the benefit of dharma, in an event -evening , you might even meet people, who would like to give even more important amounts for the project.
The Spanish Sangha is working on such a tour for spring 09 and an event in the Tibet -house in Barcelona.

Attention: We will be in Orissa the 15th of Dec to the 3rd of Febr 2009, so if possible, contact us before !
Uniting all our efforts, under the guidance and with the blessings of our masters, we will make the impossible, possible.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gatherings -
Retreats - Orissa the 15th of Dec to the 3rd of Feb 2009
Teachings -
Pledges -

For a full list of Padma Ling's Associations please go to the Contacts Page, Thank you. I believe this is an absolute necessary and effective tool to update our Sangha on the vision, aspiration and Project of the Ripa-masters and lineage. This will also help bring Sangha Mandala closer and stay connected. A sense of where we “belong”.
As this newsletter is coming out at a time when we are embarking on our most ambitious project yet in Europe, the Ripa Europe Centre or REC. It is important to me to see that you take part with delight and joy. This is a gift to be cherished in the depth of our heart and to share it with future generations.
Now I would like to share a small story from my childhood days with my grandma: One day there was a visitor from faraway bringing with him lots of gifts for her (she received visitors daily during the morning hours). As soon as the visitor left she would give away the gifts to all those who were in need. When some of the younger members of the family showed their disappointment, she said, “If one gives with joy, then our heart will expand, no matter how small the material gift, you will always experience a greater joy in your heart. Giving in such way will always make you richer and not poorer.”
Later that very day another visitor arrived with even more gifts. This experience made a lasting impact in my life and made me believe in the “joy of giving”. Her whole life has been a living example of giving with joy.
So please give generously to the REC and give it with joy. I would like to say thanks to all those who believed in this project and are already engaged in whatever way they can.
Finally I wish the team behind the Ripa Newsletter and the reader all the success and happiness. A gracious ending of year 2008. And looking forward to a great and a new beginning of the year 2009.

With love and blessings
Yours in the Dharma

Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoch

Our Goals:-

Fundraise 2.5million euros

Buy Centre

Ecologically Restore/Prepare Land:-

First Stage - Ensure basic needs for community
Shelter - make habitable, Energy - connect to grid for lighting, communication etc , Water - basic plumbing, Transport, Food, Community Outreach

Second Stage and ongoing - Install full ameneties.
